My educational program, named articulate, focuses on three main questions:
How can we use art to claim our stories?
How can we break down barriers of difference?
How does art develop stronger communication and understanding?
When narrative arts are defunded, there is a lack of creative exploration. This creates a vacuum of empathy. We are in contact with others now more than ever. People from all over the world, people who are different than those we've encountered, people we may not think we can relate to. Using narrative art and creative storytelling, we can strengthen both our interpersonal relationships and personal stories. With art, we can put our own narratives into the world – and listen to the narratives of others.
articulate was born out of my publication, "Narrative Education: Arts-Based Curricula for Identity and Empathy Development". This program is for anyone and any type of learning environment. I have adapted it for many age ranges - 2nd grade, 3rd - 5th grade, high school, and college. Email me at if you need help, want advice, or would like like to hire me to teach at your school or organization. I am also happy to provide a tailored PDF upon request.
